Two weeks ago I found out about Embed.ly and learned more about it's using while testing the WordPress Plugin for NFN4Good members and their blogs. Of course, I wanted to have this available on my various MangoBlogs as well. Here is it the v1 of idxEmbedly Mango Plugin. Feel free to test, to augment and to share.

The Embed.ly API information is posted here: http://api.embed.ly

Embed.ly is the public version of ParrotFish powering the enhanced Twitter Layout.

How to use Embed.ly?

The Embedly plugin allows bloggers to embed videos, images and rich media from 73 sources with just the url. It uses the Embedly API to get the embed code and display it in a post.

Write your post as normal, putting the url to the content you want to embed on a single line like so:

Example Video Embed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc

Used Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc

Example Twitter Embed:

Looks good I will give it a try when I get the time.

Have you tried getting it onto the Mango Blog plugins page? I tried with my Google maps plugin and still haven't heard anything.

    Thanks, Paul!
Yes, I submitted it on the Plugins Submission Form. Laura is quite busy and only has sporadically time to attend to MangoBlog communication. I am pretty sure that who ever needs MangoBlog Plugin will sooner or later look at http://www.riaforge.org - The site sends also email notifications upon new project and upon updated projects. Should actually reach quite a few people. Give it a try in addition to submitting your plugins to MangoBlog. If you are on Twitter, and i think you are, tweet a few mangoblog related posts and @mangoblog will pick it up as well as retweet.

    Happy Blogging & Coding!
